My tribute to Kyle

Created by Steve 5 years ago

i was deeply honoured and privilaged to be asked to speak at Kyles funeral.

Below is my eulogy to this remarkable young man:

As a head of House at Claverham Community College I have known Reece, Kyle and Kelvin for the best part of 8 years. Being a head of house is like being a surrogate father to 230 pupils and supporting them on their journey as they navigate their way through the somewhat difficult years that secondary school can bring. I was deeply honoured and privileged when Christina asked me to say a few words in memory of Kyle. My only apprehension is that I would not be able to convey eloquently enough what a remarkable person he was.

Kyle was a fun friendly and extremely polite young man.

I was delighted to make Kyle head boy of Oakwood house and he was a tremendous role model.  His attendance and behaviour was exemplary. Kyle was admired and liked in the school. His distinctive dark hair and cheeky smile along with his tall stature meant that he was not someone you easily forgot.

While at school Kyle took his studies seriously and was extremely focused. Claverham enabled him to flourish and develop excellent interpersonal skills.

As there was only a year between Reece and Kyle there was always a very strong bond between them. Kyle was very supportive of Reece and vice versa. Kelvin being somewhat younger had a few years at school without his older brothers looking after him but I know they were equally supportive of him also. Kyle was popular amongst his peers and with the teachers.

He was a perfect pupil. Hardworking, but also having the ability to have fun and enjoy his time at school.

Kyles friends have fond memories of him. They say he was a funny and caring.

Kyle did not like cross country however. One of the first memories of Kyle was that he walked the cross country and it took over an hour to complete the course. In subsequent years Kyle pulled a sickie to get out of it!

To earn extra money while in his latter years Kyle was delighted to be offered the role as student cleaner at the Battle sports centre. The job went fairly well until Kyle found out it involved cleaning the toilets. I do not think he stayed employed in this role for long. Kyle was very particular about his image and style. He was always impeccably dressed. A pupil recollected to me last week, “ah yes, Kyle, the head boy who always wore nice shoes”

Kyle obviously left an impression.

I was not aware that Kyle had a talent in singing. His friend Adam applied for Britain’s Got talent and on hearing this Kyle decided to apply as well, singing accapello. Kyle was hoping for an audition and was gutted when he was not called for.

Kyle was a much loved son and Christina and Jose would like everyone to know that he was a fantastic son who made them extremely proud to be his parents.

I was extremely proud of his achievements at school and will never forget Kyle. His life ended far too early. It is devastating that he felt he needed to end his own life and was suffering such anguish. I hope and pray he is at peace and looking down on us. At his own grandfathers funeral he told his friends that he had asked his grandfather to watch over his school mates. This shows the caring and beautiful nature that this remarkable young man had.
